Shea Butter | Ghana and Burkina Faso

The Organic and Fair-For-Life Certified Shea Butter we use in the Holy Balm comes from The Savannah Fruits Company (SFC) in Ghana. SFC aims at empowering as many women in Ghana and Burkina Faso as possible and helps them to grow their businesses and become self-sustainable. Gender equality is a fundamental human right, but a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world. By producing the highest quality traditionally handcrafted Shea Butter, rural African women have the possibility to work all year round and earn an income, which allows them to be able to send their children to school. The revenues of the community processed products are shared among all members.

Women are important pillars in rural communities, empowering them strengthens social ties. 

Shea for the rescue

SFC moreover helps to protect biodiversity by supporting several conservation projects. They work closely with several NGOs in national parks and reserves in Ghana, such as Wechiau Hippo Sanctuary, Mole National Park and Kwabre Reserve. All their Organic Shea Nuts come from these conservation areas, for which SFC pays a protection premium. 

For example, for every bag of shea nuts a fee is paid to the conservation fund of the Wechiau Hippo Sanctuary to fund biodiversity protection. Since the project began, the local hippo population has increased from 4 to 40! SFC also protects elephants, antelopes and crocodiles from Mole National Park and other endangered animals from Kwabe Reserve.

Eventually the Shea Butter is exported to our Dutch partner to filter it in their state-of-the-art facility, to achieve the absolute highest quality of Shea Butter available. Saucha exclusively uses the unrefined, organic and handcrafted shea butter.
